Following a road accident abroad in which all our party were taken to hospital, to where we didn’t know, and losing all travel documents to the police and luggage to the recovery company. Our first contact with Insure and Go was through their emergency help line. Although very pleasant, sending faxes to some remote number in the hospital regarding “permission to fly” (absolutely useless) and suggesting they organise a taxi to take us to the airport (which never happened) they did nothing more. We were left to sort everything out ourselves.
On return to the UK my claim, not for a king’s ransom, has taken months. I have supplied hospital reports, receipts, been asked to prove tickets were not transferrable, and asked for written receipts from the airline despite booking by phone from abroad. I needed to obtain a police report organised from the UK to a local police station that didn’t speak English.
They seem to think on return to the airport, we diverted to a casualty department for a social visit and missed our flights on purpose.
Having done all they asked I still await a decision, let alone a settlement, less all the individual excess deductions. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
If you have been ripped of by this outfit it is important
that you report them to as many people as possible e.g office of fair trading, the insurance ombudsman, trading standards the media
watchdog would be good.
avoid insureandgo at all costs
they ar nothing more than a cowboy outfit
I have used Insure and Go before and never had to claim. On a recent trip I was backpacking around South East Asia- while on a over night bus I had over £150 stolen from my handbag. When i claimed for it on insurance they stated that you can only claim for money stolen from a safe. I think this is ridiculous- the reason I chose them is because it was Backpackers Insurance- when do Backpacker always have access to safes- and I think it is silly as you are backpacking- which means moving around. Also as backpacker you will always have money on you- due to being in a foreign country! I think they need to review their policies personally- cause I know that people we met travelling nearly all of them had had money stolen which is not your fault! SO they do not always PAY OUT!!
I put my back out in california and had to go to a physio a couple of times. Claimed on return. Ha what a joke. This is what they said
“Having noted the circumstances of the claim, we would refer you to the policy wording booklet, specifically Page 11, section B – Medical expenses, item 14, which states, we will not cover the following:
“Treatment or services provided by a private clinic or hospital, health spa, convalescent home or any rehabilitation centre, unless we have agreed that this is medically necessary.”
Unfortunately, as we note that you did not consult a doctor to get a referral to the physiotherapist or contact the medical assistance company to obtain their agreement that the physiotherapy treatment was necessary, we are unable to accept liability for the claim”
Like I’m not capable of knowing when my back is out and I can’t stand upright…oh no ‘WE have to agree this is medically necessary.” Yes they got me in the small print and they’ll get you too.
I then said I would like to cancel my years subscription and have a refund but was told I was “out of the refund period!” Not a refund period I had agreed to! DONT TOUCH THEM. I cannot yell this loud enough……. DON’T TOUCH INSURE AND GO.
I was caught out by the ash cloud while on holiday in Portugal, I called Insure & Go as I had travel cover with them for 4 years and never claimed, they said we were not covered, the saying is: you find out how good your insurance is when you need to claim, I found out, and have now changed to M&S, and do not recommend Insure & Go, in fact I tell anyone that asks about travel cover to stay clear of them.
Please, Please check the small print. My partner developed the deadliest strain of meningitis the day before we were due to travel. They took 3 months to settle. The excess is per person not on a claim basis. My partner, my son and myself were obviously affected so that was £180.00 excess. They also don’t cover the admin and taxes from the cost of the flights. Out of an insurance loss £295.00 I received £48.00. During the process my integrity was also challenged, my sol is dealing with this.
My advice is stay away!!!
Bought a year’s worth of comprehensive travel insurance specifically for winter sports from one of the Insure and Go subsidiaries (travelinsurance.co.uk) and after losing my crash helmet following an accident, had to argue with the company that a snowboard helmet does not fit into an exclusion for cycling equipment. They finally accepted that it was not a cycling helmet after they found another get-out clause because the resort would be unable to provide a written document confirming the loss and I wasn’t prepared to escalate a missing helmet to the police! I am now seriously considering purchasing a second policy from a reputable insurer as having gone through all of their T&Cs in great detail I have no confidence that the one I have is worth the paper that it’s printed on. Avoid them like the plague and any company related to them.
Sadly i did not have the same experience as other people. we took out the best platinum cover as i dont skimp on travel insurance and we had the misfortune to have someone break into our bedroom on holiday while we were out we had left valuables in there they took cash passports and jewellery. Police investigated proof of a forced entry etc and off we went arranged replacement passports etc hoping with the platinum cover to recover those costs associated with replacing documents. But no on our return we were directed to the small print cash documents valuables are only covered if they are on your person they even said if we took rings watches off and left them by the bedside we would not be covered. we were staying in a villa not a hotel and a safe was not available to us and i was very disappointed nothing was covered unless we carried it with us. its a difficult decision wether your safer leaving things in a locked house ar carrying them around with you and risking being mugged but according to insure and go theyll only cover you for a mugging.
I HAVE ALWAYS USED INSURE AND GO AND HAVE TRAVELLED ALL OVER THE WORLD WITH THEM MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER DIED WHEN I WAS IN NEW ZEALAND AND THEY ARRANGED A FLIGHT HOME FOR ME WITHIN 2 DAYS AND WHILE IN AFRICA MY BAG WAS STOLEN ON THE WAY TO THE AIRPORT AND I HAD NO POLICE STATEMENT THEY DEALT WITH THE CLAIM WELL AND THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT A REPORT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE DUE TO THE AREA I WAS IN. VERY IMPRESSED HOPE TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. IF YOU HAVE A CLAIM YOU SHOULD FOLLOW UP IMMEDIATELY AND THEY WILL PAY OUT !
